A magnifying glass over a page of printed text

Our readers use our guides to apply for grants and funding, meet deadlines and avoid scams, so the facts must be right. This page explains how we work.

    The sources we use

We base every guide on official sources, in this order:

    1. the agency’s own website and documents, such as SASSA, NSFAS, Home Affairs, SARS or the Department of Employment and Labour,
    2. laws, regulations and notices in the Government Gazette,
    3. official government news, such as gov.za, SAnews and Vuk’uzenzele.

We use news reports only as leads, to know what to check. When official sources disagree, or a page looks out of date, we say so in the guide and follow the newest official source. When something isn’t clear from the sources, we write that, rather than guess.

We keep a record of the sources behind every guide, with the date we read them.

    How we keep pages correct

    • No figures that go out of date. Grant amounts, payment dates, application windows and yearly fees change on a schedule, so we don’t copy them. We explain how they work and link to the official page that always has the current figure.
    • Facts in one place. Rules from laws and regulations, and official contact details, are stored once with their official source, and every page reads them from there.
    • Checked before we publish. We check every fact against the official sources before a page goes live.
    • Nothing made up. We never invent experiences, quotes, reviews or statistics.
    • Dates on every guide. Each guide shows when we last changed it.
    • Official contacts only. We only publish a phone number, WhatsApp number, USSD code or email address if the agency prints it on its own website.

    Photos

The photos on our pages come from free stock photo libraries and are used under their licences. They show everyday scenes that fit the topic, never a national flag or an agency’s logo or uniform.

    Corrections

If you find a mistake, please tell us, with the page and, if you can, the official source. We fix mistakes about money, dates and deadlines first. When we correct a fact, we update the page and its date.

    Independence

    • We are not part of any government department or agency, and we don’t speak for them.
    • We don’t run ads or affiliate links, and no agency, bank or company pays us to write about it.
    • When we name a bank, a network or a company, it is to explain your options, not to recommend one over another.
    • We write as “TMP Team”, the editorial team of The Mzansi Post. We don’t use made-up writers or credentials.

    Scams and your personal information

We will never ask for your ID number, bank details, a one-time PIN or a password. Guides about applications, payments and status checks include a scam warning that points to the agency’s own advice.
